Upate & Canceled Trip

By Howard

We rarely blog.

I thought a small update might be nice on things that may not make it into the vlog, but viewers might find of interest.

We were supposed to go on a five night trip to Disneyland in May.  Yes. LAND not world.  We had a flight booked. (Yes. Southwest) We had a room booked at the good neighbor hotel, Grand Legacy at the Park.  We had our tickets lined up and ready to go.  We had some decent plans sketched out with the help of our friends Holly and Benn, who have been to Disneyland a number of times.  Then life intervened.  Nothing life shattering or horrible, but we had a pair of ill (now recovered) pet illness and a parent who needed tending post unexpected surgery.

Perhaps we are trying to convince ourselves that the missed trip is not such a big deal, but it turned out crowd levels during the scheduled time for our trip were much greater than anticipated.  Also, the trip coincided with a scrim covered castle and a few of the attractions we were both looking forward to experiencing being down as well.  Maybe it is for the best.  I am not sure when we’ll get to try again, but it may be a couple years.

What this means for the vlog is that we are going to be missing a lot of expected content.  I figured we would have at least two to maybe three months worth up uploads from this trip, but without this trip, we will have some down time on our vlog coming at points this year.

Because of the above canceled Disneyland trip, we modestly revised our next trip to good old Walt Disney World.  We were planning a quickie two nights Saturday trip in June. (We were flying in late Friday and leaving early Sunday.)  We extended the trip to three nights with revised flights to give us a significantly longer time in the World.  This was our consolation gift to ourselves.  We have some other trips up our sleeve as well.

We might film a bit more in Hersheypark and perhaps share a few bits from an upcoming family trip as we did with Williamsburg to fill out the vlog as well.  Still, there will be some weeks where we just got nothing, and we really are not much into home vlogs.

On a slightly different topic.  We started this vlog as a way to share our ONE YEAR OF DISNEY WORLD at the end of 2015 when we splurged for our first annual passes.  If people found our vlogs of that year entertaining or informative, that was great.  As a bonus, it forced us to record and edit our trips for our future reference rather than just have a pile random photos and video clips on a hard drive that would convey much less to us in the future.  After that first year we just kept it going as we have just kept doing a lot of travel to Disney and occasionally other places.

Our idea and my goal editing the vlog is to convey as authentically as possible, within bounds of decency and decorum, how we experience our trips. Whenever things might appear glossy or a bit ‘pixie dust-ish’ it is because in the moment that is how we are experiencing an event.  When we are tired and grumpy or we get that feeling that “The Mouse” or whatever business entity we are dealing with at the time is just trying to pick our pocket we will share that too. We grouse about fellow tourists when annoyed.  We don’t want to spin how we dress, eat, drink, or hangout at the parks and resorts.  Sometimes we look kinda sharp and other times not so much.  These are our travels.  We are honored that anyone takes the time to watch or follow.

Also, not that our camera work was ever that spectacular but on some of our later vlogs, things got worse.  In large part to a new Camcorder we bought last year.  We had a Sony Handycam that we did not realize how much we loved until it died and we bought a Canon Camcorder to replace it.  It is not that the Canon is terrible, but the Sony had better sound quality, a wider angle of view, and I think a slightly better picture at night and on dark rides. (The Canon has better battery life, user interface and downloading the content onto my Mac is easier.  The Canon is not all bad.)  Luckily, the Sony has dropped in price so we’ll be going back to it.

Thank you for watching. We really do appreciate it.

We will try to blog a bit more often than once in three or four blue moons.
